Speaking Appearances

Nicole is an accomplished speaker, having presented at international, national and regional writing conferences ­- including the Historical Novel Society North American Conference, Symposium on Medieval and Renaissance Studies, Missouri Writer’s Guild Conference and Chanticleer Author’s Conference – both on panels and teaching solo. She’s also spoken to groups ranging from academics to writers and high school students on topics from historical women to all elements of writing fiction and non-fiction and the business of self-publishing. Nicole is also a Self-E Ambassador, approved to speak about this Library Journal program for self-published authors.

March 12, 2002 – Nicole spoke to the Missouri Professional Communicators about Virginia and Francis Minor.

November 6, 2021 – Nicole spoke to the St Louis Writers Guild about worldbuilding.

October 9, 2021 – Nicole spoke at the virtual Communication Central Be a Better Freelancer Conference about how to know if your book idea will sell in today’s marketplace.

June 24, 2021
Nicole was on a panel with Leslie Carroll, Leanna Renee Huber and Elizabeth Mahon, speaking on how to use historical fiction skills to write compelling narrative nonfiction.

March 31, 2021 – Nicole spoke online to the International Association of Business Communicators (IABC) St. Louis Chapter on how she went from “Corporate to Creative” as a corporate communications writer and then an author.

March 12, 2021 – Nicole presented at the virtual Missouri Conference on History as part of the panel Tales from the Ballot Box. Her paper was “Trollops, Tarts and Taxes,” a look at Virginia Minor’s role in the tax revolts of the late 1800s and her protest of St. Louis’ Social Evil Laws.

March 4, 2021 – Nicole spoke online to Women with a Mission on why she writes about unknown women in history and how we can all contribute to women’s history by telling our own story or those of others.

Feb. 25, 2021 – Nicole spoke online to the Sisters in Crime Greater St. Louis Chapter on how to get started in self-publishing.

September 17, 2020 – Nicole was part of an online panel called Womanhood: Our Deeper History. She, spoke about the role of women in history and how uncovering our shared history can bridge stronger connections between women.

September 12, 2020 – Nicole spoke online to the Hannibal Writers’ Guild about researching for fiction.

August 29, 2020 – Nicole was the keynote speaker at the League of Women Voters of Missouri – Suffrage Centennial Celebration. She spoke on the lives of Virginia and Francis Minor.

August 25, 2020 – Nicole spoke online during an event for a local library about how women won the right to vote in Missouri, 1865-1919.

August 22, 2020 – Nicole was part of a panel at the St. Louis Writer’s Guild Virtual Conference on “The Changing Nature of Publishing”
